A Quilter's Harvest!
Each issue of The Quilter has something special to offer, but this issue in particular contains more projects and ideas than most of our others. We know that many of you are concerned about getting value for the money you spend. That's why we feel especially obligated to pack as much as we can into every magazine.
Here in the northeast, autumn just wouldn't be autumn without colorful fall foliage to admire. If you revel in the sight of falling leaves, see our New England Fall project by Helen Weinman. Helen, whose shop, Heartbeat Quilts, is located in beautiful Hyannis, Massachusetts, has a special affinity for fall. So too do Sue Harvey and Sandy Boobar of Pine Tree Country Quilts in Old Town, Maine. Their breathtaking Swirling Acorns project graces the cover of this issue. For a special harvest treat, see Michele Crawford's Pumpkin Crazy. Michele gives a new meaning to the phrase "pumpkin patch"!
When our good friends at C&T Publishing called to let us know that the company is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, we simply had to make a fuss. Award-winning quilt images from some of C&T's best-selling books are featured in this issue. We hope you'll be inspired to embark upon your own artistic journey.
Virtually every subject one can think of has been commemorated in quilts, but even we were surprised when quilt historian Patricia Cummings unearthed The Mikado, one of Gilbert and Sullivan's best known operettas, in crazy patch. We've got the scoop behind this classic tale!
Finally, we must acknowledge that there is more to the quilting world than fabric, patterns, and sewing machines. So many people have left their mark on this industry that we'd like to introduce them to you in the months ahead. Check out the premier of our new Quilting Entrepreneurs column to find out who our mystery woman is and why she was singled out.
Have a happy quilt harvest and a fabulous fall!
